Elections for 2011-2012 Executive

If you’ve been interested in joining the MAS as an executive member, now is your chance! We will be holding elections for the following positions:

  • Secretary
  • Publicity
  • Newsletter Editor
  • Social Chair
  • University Liaison
  • Year Representatives from all levels

President, Vice President, Treasurer and Symposium Coordinator must be from the returning MAS 2010-11 executive members.

Feb 8: Field School Talk

Are you interested in getting some hands-on experience in anthropology or archaeology?

The MAS is hosting a field school talk where Meghan Burchell will speak about McMaster’s own archaeology field school, and Dr. Tracy Prowse will discuss her bio-archaeology field school. We will also have information on field schools offered by other Canadian universities, the details of which will find the way to this blog afterward.

If you get hungry, we’ll be having pizza in the hallway after! (… we can’t eat in the lab.)

Bring a nonperishable food item to get in and we’ll donate it to a food drive afterward.

Pumpkins will be 2$.

If you get hungry we’ll have a bake sale raising funds for our Undergraduate Research Symposium.

The lab is a little tough to find because it’s actually below ground level, but here’s a map you can use to find your way. We’ll have pumpkins or decorations by the entrance so you can see where we are.

Oct 5: Meet the Department

Every year the MAS invites the entire anthropology faculty — professors, graduate students, and administrative staff alike — to mingle with the undergraduates. If you’ve ever wanted to meet your professors or classmates, now’s the time!

Finger-food will be provided and a cash bar will be available… for those of age, of course.

Our lovely t-shirts will also be on sale, or at least to order, at the event.

Wentworth House, The Phoenix
5:30pm, drop-in basis

Directions: The event is being held in Wentworth House, which is a room in The Phoenix (the bar between Mills Library and MDCL). Once you go into the building, go up the stairs and straight into the room in front of you. We’ll have signs up, and the Phoenix provides a chalkboard sign that will direct you to the location once inside the building.

Wentworth House and The Phoenix are number 21 on the university’s campus map.

Sept 28: 1st General Meeting and Grad School Info Night

Our first general meeting will involve information about this year’s events and informational presentations and Q&A sessions about grad school.

McMaster anthropology MA and PhD candidates will share their experiences while talking about what you’ll need to know to apply to grad school, when to do it, and how and when to apply for funding.

Pizza will be provided!

ClubsFest I

MAS members will once again be attending ClubsFest I (the September 2010 edition). Drop by to say hi, grab some pamphlets, look at some mandibles, chat with us, and ask any questions you might have. We’ll have information available about this year’s events will also be selling our super stylish t-shirts (in new colours!)
